Dapasmart

Common use

Dapasmart is primarily used for managing type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It falls under the class of medicines known as antidiabetics. This tablet is also used to reduce the risk of hospitalization due to heart failure in type 2 diabetes patients with established cardiovascular disease or multiple risk factors. Furthermore, this tablet helps slow down the progression of kidney disease in adults with type 2 diabetes and diabetic kidney disease.

Dosage and direction

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not split, crush, or chew the tablet. The medicine can be taken with or without food, as prescribed by the doctor. Try to take the medicine at approximately the same time each day.

Precautions

Kidney Impairment: People with kidney disease should be cautious as Dapasmart could exacerbate their condition.
Volume Depletion and Hypotension: This medicine might worsen conditions such as low blood volume or low blood pressure in patients with these conditions.
Recurrent Genital or Urinary Tract Infections: People with frequent genital or urinary tract infections should take Dapasmart tablet carefully, as it may increase the risk of such infections.

Contraindications

Dapasmart tablet is not recommended during pregnancy due to the potential risk to a fetus, especially during the second and third trimesters. If you're pregnant or planning to conceive, consult your doctor before starting this medicine.
Do not take Dapasmart if you're allergic to dapagliflozin or any other component of the tablet. If you've had allergic reactions to medicines in the past, discuss it with your doctor.
Dapasmart isn't advisable for children under 18 years of age. Always consult your doctor before giving any medicine to a child.

Possible side effect

When taking Dapasmart, you might experience the following common side effects: Urinary tract infections; Increased urination; Fungal infection in the genital area, causing itching or discomfort; Stuffy or runny nose; Sore throat.

Drug interaction

Diuretics: Medicines such as furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide may interact with Dapasmart, potentially increasing the risk of dehydration.
Mood stabilizers: Concomitant use of this tablet with lithium may decrease serum lithium concentrations.
Insulin and insulin secretagogues: Medications like insulin glargine or glimepiride can interact with Dapasmart, leading to a heightened risk of low blood sugar levels (hypoglycaemia).

Missed dose

If you forget to take your Dapasmart tablet, don't worry. You can take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's nearly time for your next dosage, skip the one you forgot and continue with your normal schedule. Never increase your dosage without discussing it with your doctor.

Overdose

In case you accidentally take more Dapasmart than recommended, you might experience increased urination or mild discomfort. If these symptoms persist or you feel unwell, inform your doctor.

Storage

Store Dapasmart at a temperature below 30°C. Place the medicine away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
